Malena lay tangled in the sheets, shrouded in cigarette smoke.
“You should really stop smoking. It’ll kill you one day.” Henrik spoke in their native tongue, Swedish. He walked to the bathroom.
“Well you should stop loving me. It will kill you one day.” She heard him turn on the…
It. Is. The. Freakin. Cutest!!!! *Fangirlin*

A lot of you follow this blog cause you love to read and think, ‘oh yeah, i’ll follow a book blog because, ya know, i’ll get recommendations for new books and stuff’. Then when (you know, every 7 months or so) a post does show up on your dash, you just scroll by it. I accuse some of you of this, because I do it all the time. When there’s too much text on my dash, I usually just scroll right on by, unless something catches my eye.
So for those of you that do this you probably haven’t read about my obsession with Pride and Prejudice, and I mean, I’m not that obsessed, but I’ve reached the level at which I can quote almost every line from the 2005 movie. I’ve also read some spin-off, fan-fiction, sex-filled novels, which is honestly kind of pathetic. I’ve even read Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies.
I figured it’s only fitting that I write about the movie that inspired the obsession, because yes, I am one of those people that saw the movie before reading the book. Here is how my relationship with Pride and Prejudice has progressed: I watched the movie and didn’t understand it, I read the book and pretty much didn’t like it, then I watched the movie everyday for a month and was obsessed, and then I reread the book, and reread it again, and again, and I was in love with love.
There’s a bunch of adaptions of Pride and Prejudice, but this movie is my favorite. It’s really beautifully shot. Joe Wright is the director. He did Atonement and Hanna too. I really like him. Definitely check out his movies. Keira Knightley does a fantastic job portraying Lizzy’s sassy character and Matthew MacFadyen will always be my Mr. Darcy. Pride and Prejudice is just a fantastic story in any form really. It’s hard to mess it up. But this movie really has some stunning visuals.

There were so many fantastic things about this movie. The first one being Ryan Gosling is jshdgsexgod. Carrie Mulligan was fantastic as well. She’s been in a lot of great movies. It was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who I’ve really never heard of before honestly, but he did a great job. The soundtrack was awesome as well. I’m obsessed.
Ryan Gosling’s character was really complex, but sort of simple at the same time. He was really naive, he could never tell who was bad or just kind of bad. He had a tenderness to him, but when it came to protecting those he loved he was absolutely vicious.
Drive kept you glued to the screen even though the relationships built up so slowly. There was so much incredible tension. There was amazing use of slow motion, particularly in the elevator scene, for those of you who’ve seen it. That scene… oh wow. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. That scene was pretty perfect.
I really didn’t know how anything was going to turn out. It was hard to predict, at least for me. The action was crucial to the film. There was a good balance of slow and fast, tender and brutal. It did get a really graphic at times. Maybe it would’ve worked without that, but again I think it works out.
Drive wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely one of the best films this year.
